Teacher Process

1. Gather your partners together. Decide which topic each of you will be researching. Choose from:
Art and Culture
Government and Economics
Daily Life
*Create groups of three according to compatibility and competence.
2. After one full day of research, decide which topic you have the most information on. Use this for your feature article.
*Guide students in deciding which topic would be best for the feature article. Have them discuss what they have found with you.
3. Keep your research organized in a folder. Have separate areas for each of the sub-topics. This way, if you come across information for a partner’s topic, it will be clearly labeled and you can share it with them.
*Check that students keep a folder of all information.
4. Record daily logs of your progress. At the conclusion of each day of research, all partners must initial next to the other students’ names to agree that they contributed fully that day. You must have the initials of all partners to receive all five points. This log will be kept by the teacher.
*Have students initial the log after they have discussed their opinions. Make it clear that they do not have to initial next to a student who has not contributed.
5. On day one of computer lab, you will use the Microsoft Word format to layout your magazine. Once the layout is set, you may begin writing your information.
*Computer lab teacher will go over the layout with them as a step by step process.
6. Once your written information is done, you may work on your cover. This should be done by day four.
*Keep students on task by circulating during the day to evaluate their progress.
7. Your last day in the computer lab should be used to add your pictures, charts, or graphics. Your final copy of the magazine will be printed out. Have one copy for each partner, plus one for the teacher.
